Job Announcement: Hidden Villa Assoc. Director

Hidden Villa is a 1,600-acre farm and wilderness preserve in Los Altos
Hills,
on the San Francisco Peninsula.  Hidden Villa has net assets in excess of
$10,000,000 and an annual budget of approximately $2,000,000.  Since
1937, the farm and preserve have been the sites for unique programs
teaching environmental and multicultural awareness:
1.  Multicultural summer camp programs for ages 6-18.
2.  Environmental education programs for elementary school
     classes.
3.  Community programs offering forums, hikes and cultural
     performances.
4.  A hostel for international and local visitors including group
     rental facilities.
5.  Community Supported Agriculture program providing fresh
     organic produce.
6.  Volunteer & internship programs

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Associate Director is program director and overall ranch manager.  The
Associate Director oversees all aspects of running Hidden Villa ranch -
maintenance and programmatic.  This position serves as an important
coordinating link between the core programs of environmental education
and summer camp and the farm, animals, and facilities and ties them to
our educational goals.  The Associate Director is responsible for the farm,
animal, sustainability and internship programs as well as for the overall
management of the ranch, ranch structures and wilderness area.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
·   Work together with Executive Director (ED) on all aspects of the
     management of Hidden Villa
·   Work with ED and staff in program innovation in accordance with
     the five-year Strategic Plan
·   Plan for conservation and use of ranch land and structures and
     wilderness area
·   Develop the sustainable building educational program
·   Provide leadership in the expansion of the internship program
·   Provide vision and field experience for the environmental education
     program
·   Manage animal program as a resource for educational programs
·   Provide direction for agricultural education program development
·   Supervise agricultural and property managers
·   Represent Hidden Villa at community organizations

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Candidates for this position must have a bachelor's degree and at least 7
years of successful leadership experience in environmental education or in
a summer camp setting.  S/he must have the technical skills and/or
experience required to oversee all aspects of farm operations.  Sense of
humor and cultural sensitivity are important.  Hidden Villa staff are people
who must want to work in a workplace committed to diversity, humanitarian
values and environmental stewardship.

The Associate Director must have excellent organizational and
communication skills so as to manage various work teams and volunteers
as well as to oversee complex projects.  S/he must have skill in dealing
with the public; should be visionary and innovative.  The Associate Director
must function calmly under deadlines and in emergencies, and be flexible
in nature so as to cope with frequently changing priorities.  Teaching
experience is valuable.  Excellent written and oral communication skills,
working knowledge of word processing, database and spreadsheet
computer programs, as well as financial accounting of nonprofit
organizations are essential.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
This is a full time, exempt position that requires living on site (a three
bedroom house is provided) and provide on-duty coverage at least one
weekend per month.  Generous benefits include health, dental, disability
insurance, employer-matched retirement plan and 12 days vacation plus
the last week of December off.  Salary is DOE.  Open until filled. Hidden
Villa is a nonsmoking environment.
