A SINGLE PERSON CAN CHANGE THE WORLD!
On Saturday, September 28th, people will gather for the SAN FRANCISCO EARTH
CHARTER COMMUNITY SUMMIT 2002, a day of celebration, education and dialogue
on the Earth Charter. The event will take place from 8 am to 3:30 pm
(registration at 7:30 am) at the SGI-USA San Francisco Culture Center
Auditorium, 2450 17th Street (at Potrero).
The Earth Charter is a people's treaty, a declaration of fundamental
principles for building a just, sustainable and peaceful global society in
the 21st century. The Earth Charter embraces the view that the problems of
environmental degradation, ethnic and religious conflict, violence, and
social and economic injustice are all inter-dependent and calls on each of
us to recognize that we "are one human family and one Earth community with a
common destiny".
The morning program will feature webcast reports from over 20 U.S. cities
holding simultaneous Summits, reports from local delegates to the U.N. World
Summit for Sustainable Development (WSSD) conference in Johannesburg, and
presentations on Water "The New Liquid Gold" and Media Empowerment. From 11
am 'til noon David Krieger, President of the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation,
will discuss "Choose Hope and Change The World", with a lunchtime
book-signing of his new book "Choose Hope".
In the afternoon participants will choose facilitated dialogue groups for
partnership building and sharing ideas on implementing the Earth Charter in
education, the environment, creative arts, media, government, faith-based
community, and daily life. Music, children's art, poetry and song will be
included, and the entire program will be webcast live at:
www.earthchartersummits.org
San Francisco Summit Co-Sponsors include: Club of Budapest USA, iMusicast,
Institute for Noetic Sciences, Pacific Research Center, SF People's
Assembly, SGI-USA, United Nations Association USA-Northern California, and
Unity Foundation.
