Dear TREES Supporters and GTU students, staff and
faculty:
ABSW needs our help. ABSW is planning on building a
new building that will include housing for low income
students and Adjunct Faculty. In light of the expenses
of living in Berkeley, it's a desperately needed
housing project. The residents surrounding the site
next to the ABSW school are opposing it on the grounds
of not wanting more student housing in the
neighborhood. Never mind that most of ABSW students
are older, mature and trying to raise families while
going to school. And, there may be a bit of racism --
since 70% of ABSW students are students of color.
Second, is we need e-mails about the treatment of
homeless folks in Berkeley. Berkeley should be the
model of how to work with the homeless folks, not the
Republican, "cite them as criminals" mentality. Let's
advocate for more services and more housing for
Berkeley homeless. If you think Berkeley doesn't have
enough money, just remember the houses that are in the
Berkeley hills and next to campus. Most people in the
world can't live like that.
On behalf of TREES and our efforts to be advocates of
justice issues, I ask that you send an e-mail noting
your support of the ABSW Housing Project (ZAB decision
for projects at 2500-2514 Benvenue Avenue and the
Berkeley homeless at:
clerk@ci.berkeley.ca.us
mayor@ci.berkeley.ca.us

If you actually have time to attend the hearings, go
